Recycling at OUUC

WHAT can we recycle at OUUC?

HOW?

These materials will be collected in 2 containers inside the building:
PAPER:
All clean paper: white, pastels and bright paper and envelopes, flattened paper boxes, newspapers, magazines, catalogs, clean paper bags, construction paper scraps - - in bins in classrooms, offices and the foyer.

COMMINGLED RECYCLING:
Empty and rinsed:
aluminum cans & trays,
"tin" (steel) cans,
glass bottles & jars (all colors),
plastic bottles (with a neck),
milk & juice boxes.

Remove caps and labels, rinse and deposit in the under-counter bin in the kitchen.

CARDBOARD:
Flatten boxes and carry them to large bin beside the dumpster.

WHY?

The more materials that we recycle, the less raw materials will need tobe removed from the earth, processed with (often toxic) chemicals, and formed in energy-intensive industries for our use.

Additionally, each item that we recycle saves OUUC money.
We must pay for garbage disposal; recycling is free.

Waste Management Principles:

Reduce the amount you discard
Reuse as much as you can
Recycle waste materials
Properly dispose of materials that you cannot reuse or recycle

Unitarian Universalist Association
Seventh Principle:

Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part
