How to make BOKASHI and transform Kitchen Waste into Wonderful Compost. Bokashi is a Japanese term and means “fermented organic matter”. It is a potent compost accelerator for kitchen waste. We will make it, using wheat bran, molasses and Effective Microorganisms™ and as well learn how to ferment our kitchen scraps with it. 22% of landfills are food leftovers! Let us give this organic matter back to nature as wonderful compost. By using Bokashi you can even include meat or other protein items in your kitchen waste without generating bad odor, except a smell like pickles. Other Bokashi uses: compost toilets, cat boxes, or soil amendment. You will take home a bucket full of golden Bokashi, ready to ferment. Materials provided.
Erika Fehr is an environmental educator and has 6 years experience with Bokashi composting .
