Dates: Thursdays (5 sessions), Feb 7, 14, 21, 28, Mar 6
Time: 10:00 am -12:00 noon
Place: OUUC
Facilitators: Sister Mimi Maloney, Tom Joldersma, Bernie Steckler
Costs: No special costs

This class explores the growing compatibility of science and religion after a 500 year history of contention. Brian Swimme, along with other noted authors and scientists, weaves together cosmology, quantum physics, biological science and native wisdom into a much needed concise introduction to our 14-billion-year story of cosmic evolution and our part in this vast story. They explore how we can each regain our reverence for earth and for all of life. The five videos upon which this class is based are accessible and alive with intellectual intensity and will escort you across the threshold of science and into the realm of the sacred.

These videos came out of the challenge given by Brian Swimme’s mentor, Thomas Berry, renowned Catholic priest, called by Newsweek in 1997, America’s foremost ecotheologian. Berry said, “You scientists have this stupendous story of the universe. It breaks outside all previous cosmologies but so long as you persist in understanding it solely from a quantitative mode, you fail to appreciate its significance. You fail to hear its music. That is what the spiritual traditions can provide. Tell the story. But tell it with a feel for its music.” Come to hear and see this visually enhanced story of the universe. Come hear its music and add your voice to the conversations that ensue.

Sister Mimi Maloney is a member of the Sisters of the Holy Names and holds Masters degrees in education and spirituality; Bernie Steckler holds a PhD in chemistry; they are both members of Earth Care Catholics. Tom Joldersma is a member of OUUC and holds a PhD in physics.

This class is co-sponsored by the OUUC, Interfaith Works Earth Stewardship Committee, and the Earth Care Catholics of Olympia.
