On November 14th, Olympia
Unitarian Universalist Congregation Reverend Art Vaeni gave an encouraging
sermon, which responded to the national election and OUUC community members'
reactions. After the services this day, over 55 people signed up to continue
discussions finding ways to help shape a healthier democracy. The sermon,
and these discussions are based upon the book by George Lakoff titled Don't
Think of an Elephant: Know Your Values and Frame the Debate-The Essential
Guide for Progressives.
Since this time, the Social Justice Committee has
met and formed a subcommittee which has been planning the study sessions,
as well as how best to proceed with the ideas and actions which are sure
to come from them. Using the book as a guide, this discussion group will
explore ways that we can better understand and articulate our core values,
which inform our social, spiritual, and political views. The group will
look for ways to educate each other as well as spur action in the larger
community.
These study sessions are open to the public and are free - you can come
to the later sessions even if you missed the earlier ones. They take place
at the OUUC at 2200 East End St. on Olympia's West Side.
